PLENARY SESSION 5: Bioeconomy Vision 2040 – Forward-looking narratives

Plenary Scene-Setter
Building on G20 high-level principles for the bioeconomy and the COP30 Bioeconomy Challenge, this plenary establishes a 2040 vision where the bioeconomy has become a “global norm”, driving socio-economic transformation and climate action. By scaling cost-competitive biomanufacturing and integrating indigenous knowledge, the session moves from idealism to realism, creating forward-looking narratives that support measurable impact. Bioeconomy for socio-economic transformation will also require strong and inclusive global partnerships. To forge a sustainable, fair, and modern economic transformation, concrete near-term pledges and targets for bioeconomy action will be offered.
“A thriving bioeconomy by 2040 will depend on global partnerships, inclusive innovation and sustainable resource use—turning today’s commitments into measurable progress for climate, nature and society.”
