Plenary Scene-Setter

This “local-to-global” plenary explores how place-based bioeconomy delivery can scale by linking EU enabling frameworks with national action in Ireland. It highlights how EU funding, regulation, and collaboration support competitive national and regional bioeconomies, before turning to Ireland’s new bioeconomy strategy and demonstration initiatives. Emphasis is placed on governance and engagement to support effective policy delivery, including the creation of investable pathways to market. Creating predictable and reliable demand will be key and exemplified by the launch of a voluntary 'Bio-based Europe Alliance' (BEA). Global mirror perspectives will reflect on transferability and how international collaboration can accelerate ‘local to global’ progress.

“Strong bioeconomies grow from local action supported by enabling frameworks. Linking European ambition with national leadership can unlock innovation, investment and collaboration across regions and globally.”
